The God of High School Webtoon was recently adapted into an anime, and people just can’t get enough of it.
As far as we’ve seen, the original story is wonderfully adapted with a few tweaks here and there. The fight scenes are also beautifully animated, and the power can be felt through the screen!
However, the anime has recently picked up its pace, which is understandable given the fact that they have to fit a lot of plot into mere 13 episodes. Nevertheless, the story can still be fleshed out better as other than the fights; there is not much substance to the characters and plot.
In the latest episode, which was released on 27th July, we can see the series building up towards a larger plot, with many events happening one after another.
While it is still all very ambiguous, in this article, I will talk about episode 4, and lay down my predictions for the next one.
1. Episode 3 Recap
Episode 3 of “God of High School” titled “Wisdom/Kingdom” started within a dark church.
The later scenes introduced us to some mysterious people who planned to set off in search of something.
Back to the tournament, we saw Yoo Mira’s battle against Mah Miseon, Han Daewi’s match against Baek Seungchul, and finally, Jin Mori’s fight against an administrator.
2. Episode 4 Review
The fourth episode of “God of High School” that was released on 27th July, picked up with the announcement of the GOH Seoul preliminaries semifinals.
The top 4 participants included Yoo Mira, Han Daewi, Jin Mori, and Byeon Jaehee, and the next fight would be between the first two.
The scene then shifted to show Mori, Daewi, and Mira walking, where the latter was suddenly approached by a man who asked her to marry him. Imagine the shock on our faces, multiply it by three, and you’ll get how those three reacted!
Now, surely Mira wouldn’t marry a random man who proposed to her out of the blue, right? But that’s where we were wrong!
The man who proposed to her was no ordinary person, but instead, the strongest martial artist and businessman representing South Korea’s sports entertainment scene – Seongjin.
Seongjin promised to revitalize and make Moon Light Sword Style preeminent around the world in exchange for her hand in marriage. His promises aligned with what Mira’s late father wanted, and in extension, with Mira.
She agreed to marry him and withdrew her name from the Seoul GOH preliminaries.
The next scene took us to Mira’s wedding day, where she was walking down the aisle. While this was happening, in true Mori fashion, our main character, aided by Han Daewi, confronted Mira.
After a few flashbacks about her childhood, her uncle’s wishes, and a classic Yoo Mira style attack, the wedding was terminated.
While it seemed like a happy ending, with our leading trio sporting smiles, the next scene showed us a badly beaten Mira struggling on the GOH arena. The culprit, Han Daewi, exited after promising Mori to see him in the finals.
3. Why does Seongjin want to marry Mira?
Mira was proposed to by Seongjin – the strongest martial artist and businessman who represented South Korea’s sports entertainment scene.
He promised to utilize his power to revitalize and make Moon Light Sword Style preeminent around the world in exchange for her hand in marriage.
Since this would satisfy her late father’s wish, Mira agreed, and the next scene showed her walking down the aisle.
All of this seemed very sudden and suspicious since we had no information about what the “groom” wanted. However, it all started making sense when we saw a flashback on Seongjin’s part.
In the flashback, he was in a dark church, kneeling before a hooded man who ordered him to take control of the “holy sword that could rule god himself” and the “hand that could draw out its power.”
Seongjin wanted to marry Mira in order to take control of her and her sword’s power and fulfill the orders given to him by that mysterious man.
4. What is that mysterious person?
The mysterious person in episode 4 of “God of High School” is a member of an organization called Nox. He is the one who ordered Seonjin to take control of Mira’s sword and the power that could awaken it.
5. Mira’s Sword – What’s so special?
While it was revealed that the only reason Seongjin wanted to marry Mira was because of her sword, there are still many questions that arise.
What exactly is so special about her sword? And why did the mysterious person mean when he called it the “holy sword that could rule God himself”?
Mira’s Sword, ‘holy sword that could rule God himself,’ is actually South Korea’s National Treasure grade weapon called the Bongseon sword.
This weapon is impervious to Charyeok attacks, i.e., the power borrowed from the Gods, and therefore is called “the holy sword that can rule God himself.”
However, now that Seongjin has stolen Mira’s sword, will she be able to bring out her best in the match against Daewi?
6. Daewi vs. Mira
The semifinals of Seoul GOH preliminaries started, and Daewi and Mira faced each other in the arena. However, instead of an honorable fight between two friends, we saw the former brutally beating Mira, and giving her zero chance to counter-attack.
Daewi’s fighting style was quite unusual, as we saw him specifically targeting Mira’s wound, in an attempt to overpower her and end the match quickly.
While this first caused waves of dissent to pass through the fans, after knowing the reason behind it, everyone started sympathizing with him.
Apparently, Daewi’s friend was in critical condition, and the only way Daewi could save him was by ruthlessly defeating Mira and proving his worth to the organizer, Park Mujin.
While we can’t comment on whether his actions were correct, it does garner sympathy from the viewers. After Mori wins his match against Jaehee, both friends will be facing each other in the GOH finals!
7. Episode 5 Expectations & Predictions
Episode 5 of “God of High School” will probably pick up with the next match in the semifinals – Jin Mori Vs. Byeon Jaehee. Mori’s Renewal Taekwondo and Beyon’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will make up for an exciting fight, and its animation will be a treat to our eyes.
Mori’s possible win in this battle will mean that he will face Han Daewi in the finals. This ultimate showdown between two friends will definitely go down as one of the most epic battles in anime, and we can’t help but await the next episode.
